Back to uni

Now that Fresher’s week is over and the new academic year is well and truly under way, we’re rather excited about our plans to work with more students over the coming year, through a few initiatives that we’re busy pulling together.

The DoNation is pretty well made for students – given that the concept came to me whilst a student myself, that should be no surprise.

No one has quite as much energy and lust for crazy challenges as students seem to, be it hitch hiking to Morocco, running the Hyde Park Relay, or shaving their head. And few people are as passionate about social and environmental causes as students. Yet they are notoriously broke, and whilst they want to support their 100’s of friends through these feats, they simply can’t afford to give all their money to charities. Personal survival (and beer buying) is a pretty important cause too!

So supporting their friends through real action, not money, seems like a perfect fit.

We hope to pilot a Student Ambassador program in the New Year (watch this space) but for now we’d love to see more students getting ‘doing’. Here are some ideas to get you started on what you could do to raise sponsorship, aside from the obvious marathons, half marathons, triathlons, and the likes:

Bath of baked beans    Bathe in baked beans (ones that are past their use-by date, obviously!)

Muddy Mo Run    The Muddy Mo Run – a muddy 10km run (with an obligatory ‘tash) on 26th November, in Berkshire. Support Prostrate Cancer Charity and the environment!

Swim the Thames    Swim the Thames on New Years Day (you don’t need to do the full hog like David Walliams!)

Santa run    One of the many Santa Runs around the country in December. Search on Runner’s World to find one near you.

Tofu chomping     A tofu chomping competition. Or pie eating. But preferably veggie!

So decide on your challenge then sign up and set up your sponsorship page (it takes just two minutes) and share it with your friends. Ask them to sponsor you and inspire them to start living a bit more sustainably.

We’ve even got some t-shirts to give those doing the most outlandish and ambitious challenges, but stocks are limited so you’d better get going fast!
