David Kemp: Cycling to Work - 30 miles!
As you may know the Kemp Household has been long-listed in the Great Energy Race (#GERace) from The Observer and B&Q.
For the next month (It ends 7th April) Claire, Ben and I will be looking at ways to reduce our energy use in everything we do. But I thought it would be great if I encourage others to reduce their energy use too.
To inspire you all I decided that instead of cycling to Sheffield Station and then from Wakefield Westgate Station to work (6.2 miles) I would cycle all the way to work (30 miles) on my Brompton folding bicycle!
To make sure I'm not the only one working, if you all pledge to save 10,000kg of CO2 then I'll cycle home as well! That's a round trip of 60 miles (about 5-6 hours) with a 7.5 hour working day in the middle. To raise the bar further, if you pledge 15,000kg of CO2 saving I'll cycle to work and home in a onesie with red and white spots too! (15,000kg of CO2 is the equivalent needed to build a new car or fly to New York 5 times!
I'm asking for sponsorship but I'm not asking you to give me your change: I'm asking you to create change.
The DoNation website is trying to create a more sustainable world and the environment needs our action more than it needs our cash.
HOW IT WORKS:
Browse the DoActions and find one (or more) that suits you, then make your pledge(s). Some are really easy; others take a bit more effort.
You only pledge to do your chosen action for two months and all the information you need is provided here on The DoNation, making it really easy to complete. You'll receive a few helpful reminders and then at the end of the two months you'll be asked to confirm how you got on.
So please get donating and reducing you C02!
Thanks,
Dave
