Computer says no DoAction - The DoNation turn off your appliances

Increase the lifespan of your gadgets, cut your bills, and stamp out standby.

The average household spends 9% of their electricity bills on wasted 'standby' energy, costing it £100 a year2.

By switching off appliances at the socket you can sleep better knowing you’ll save money and energy.

Why?

Money

Electricity costs money: saving it saves you cash. Simple.

Climate Change

Electricity is a beautiful thing. It powers our streets, YouTube and toasters. Why waste it on appliances you’re not using? Most electrical gadgets keep using electricity even when they're switched off, collectively using about 0.5Kg of CO2 per home each day (equivalent to making 28 cups of tea).

If all the UK’s 17 million office workers turned off their computers at night, the carbon savings would be equivalent to removing 245,000 cars from the road1.

30%

of office workers leave their computer on overnight1

How?

This shouldn’t be too tough. Turn off all your appliances properly, at the socket if necessary. That includes computers, monitors, all other peripherals, printers, televisions, DVD players, mobile phones and mp3 chargers, microwaves and games consoles.

When purchasing new gadgets, always check out their energy rating (aim for A+) and look out for the EST Recommended logo:
