Chief Doer
it's time for the Do Team to grow
Here’s the situation…
The DoNation is about to hit its first birthday.
Momentum is building. It’s all getting rather exciting.
But the full-time Do Team is still just one person, me, Hermione. That’s got to change.
The DoNation just received some great funding from Nesta’s Innovation In Giving programme, to support us in taking the DoNation to the next step. This means we can start taking things forward - piloting our subscription packs in earnest, doing some work to the website, and stepping up our marketing. But I need help to make that happen.
The opportunity:
It’s an exciting and unusual opportunity, that’s for sure. Primarily, it offers:
- The chance to be a key part in a game changing enterprise from its very early stages.
- The responsibility to lead delivery of our pioneering services to a diverse range of public, private and third sector Doers.
- The chance to immerse yourself in a broad range of tasks, applying and developing a broad range of skills.
What we need is…
Someone who’s passionate about The DoNation and will invest great energy, commitment and care in taking it to the next level.
Someone who’s got a real ‘can do’ attitude and lots of initiative.
Someone with experience in managing the operations and delivery of web-based services would be ideal.
Someone who’s able to take responsibility and see a project through from start to finish. Being organised, systematic, and thorough is essential.
Someone with fantastic communication skills. They’re pretty important. They’ll need to be able to write snappy, concise and engaging content for a variety of uses – like the website, guides, and proposals of all sorts...
Someone who’s pretty nifty on a computer. Experience with editing web content would be good - we’re a ‘digital start up’ after all. Knowing a few smart tricks on Excel, Photoshop and the likes wouldn’t go amiss either.
Someone that understands the space we work in. The DoNation cuts across lots of spaces – environment, social enterprise, education, CSR, charity fundraising, and digital marketing - so we obviously wouldn’t expect them to have experience in all these areas. Just some, and an interest in and adaptability for the others.
Someone who’s happy to use their own network to pull in support, advice, and partners.
Someone who’s happy to hit the ground running without the extensive support team that comes with most jobs. They’ll have to be able to get on happily without an HR, admin, or IT support teams, for example.
The role:
This is primarily an operations role, responsible for delivering our work to a variety of clients. The core responsibilities will involve:
- Delivering and supporting development of the schools and corporate program.
- Creating and managing a ‘friends of The DoNation’ program, structuring and promoting existing and new partnerships more effectively.
However, there is a broad range of other jobs that need doing day to day, many of which can be divided between the team depending on experience and interest. Knowledge and enthusiasm for some of the tasks below is what’s needed:
- Managing relationships with key sporting and / or sponsorship events.
- Managing user data, analysing patterns and creating league tables for these pilots and partners
- Supporting project management of the website redevelopment.
- Creating and editing website content.
- Writing proposals and funding applications.
- Responding to user enquiries and support requests.
- Managing and recruiting volunteers and ambassadors.
In a team of two there’ll naturally be lots of overlap, sharing of tasks and helping each other out. Team work, I believe it’s called.
That’s why I haven’t defined the full job description yet; some of the detail will evolve as we work together.
The practicalities of it:
Where: The DoNation HQ is currently based down in Clapham, South London. But there’s a big chance we may migrate north east soon, to dive into the buzz of the city.
Time and duration: We are ideally looking to recruit to a full time position, but with the right candidates & availability we could consider splitting the role into two part time positions. The contract will initially be six months with the hope to extend, depending on results and performance of The DoNation and the individual
Pay: dependent on experience.
What next? If you’re interested, just send me your CV and an email with a bit about why you want the role, why you think you’d be a big asset to The DoNation, and any questions you may have about the it all (max. one page). If it sounds like you could be a good fit then I’ll likely suggest we grab a coffee and take it from there. I’m looking to have someone in post by early summer.
