Our picks of the month - October
It may seem like the sponsorship season is waning, with the autumn flurry of marathons, triathlons, and fun runs having come to a close. But for many the onset of the winter chill and rain just adds to the challenge, inspiring ever more whacky and admirable sponsorship challenges. And for those who don’t fancy heading out to run and roll through the frost-crusted mud, its time to start planning the springtime events.
Whatever camp you’re in, I hope we’ve got an idea or two that tickles your fancy below. So there's no excuse not to sign up and start raising sponsorship, inspiring your friends to live more sustainably whilst you live a little more crazily.
National Lottery Olympic Park Run: London; 31 March 2012
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be one of the first to cross the Olympic finish line. Join 5,000 others running the 5-mile course culminating in the Olympic Stadium. BALLOT CLOSES TODAY.
Grim Challenge: Hampshire; Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th December
Held over the Army’s vehicle testing tracks, this 8 mile run is sure to be interesting, and muddy. Having just done a similar run in Herefordshire, I can highly recommend it – adrenaline, amusement, and a real sense of achievement. Do it.
Santa Runs: Nationwide; throughout December
Yes, Christmas is on it’s way (I can’t believe I just said that). So dress up in the beloved red and white suit and join 1,000’s of others running, running, running around your local park. There are dozens of such events going on around the country, find one near you on this great event listing.
New Year’s Day swim: Nationwide, 1st January 2011
Lord knows why we get such pleasure from pain and misery, but this is a definite example of that inexplicable human condition. Join swimmers around the world in plunging into your nearest pool of icy winter water. Saudersfoot in Pembrokshire and Whitely Bay in Tyneside traditionally see 1000’s of swimemrs raising incredible sponsorship.
Whatever you decide to do, please use it to support us and our cause by setting up a sponsorship page and encouraging your friends to 'do'. Every extra sponsor raiser is enormously valuable to us.
There are plenty more ideas on our calendar of challenges, and if you have any to recommend, we’d love to hear about them. Drop us a line on .
